Property ownership: Residency and Visas

Permanent and Semi Permanent Visa Options

Residency and Visas

There are two ways to legalise your right to stay, live, work, or frequently visit Spain: obtaining a full residency document (such as a TIE or European residency certificate) or securing a visa.

The TIE Resident Identity Card is available to non-EU residents and is issued for periods of 2, 5, or 10 years. There are several ways to obtain a TIE if you meet the eligibility criteria, with the most relevant options for our clients being:

  • Brexit TIE: Available to UK nationals who can prove residence in Spain prior to 31/12/2020.
  • Student TIE: Granted for completing a two-year physical course, with proof of economic means for sustainability.
  • Student Visa: Applied for outside Spain or within 90 days of arrival, for physical courses lasting less than one year. This visa is renewable or convertible into a student TIE.
  • ‘Arraigo’: Based on proof of living in Spain for three years without proper documentation, along with evidence of integration into Spanish culture.
  • Spouse or long-term partner (pareja de hecho): For partners of EU residents living in Spain.
  • Non-Lucrative Visa: Applied for outside Spain with evidence of sufficient funds or wealth (approximately €27,000 per applicant). This is a one-year, multi-entry visa that is renewable or convertible into a non-lucrative TIE.
  • Economic Visa: Availability depends on the region of application and the applicant’s qualifications, as all applications are assessed for the possibility of fulfilling a vacancy locally.
